Our Retail Team Needs You
At Families Together Suffolk, we have a great team of retail staff and volunteers. The retail team runs our charity shops in Eye and Halesworth, our eBay selling hub in Stowmarket, and our Facebook Marketplace page online. Our retail activities help to raise vital funds, supporting the aims of Families Together Suffolk to help families across the county. We are keen to find more individuals who would like to join our small but powerful retail volunteering team.
If you’re able to offer a few hours each week, a half day, or a full day shift volunteering in one of our retail teams, please get in touch.
Here are some of the roles available within our retail team:
Retail Team Member (Eye or Halesworth)
Volunteering in one of our vibrant charity shops in the centre of Eye or Halesworth, you will be helping Families Together Suffolk with the day to day running of our shops.
-
This can include a wide range of tasks, such as:
- Assisting and serving customers.
- Assessing and preparing stock for sale.
- Getting creative with visual merchandising and display.
- Rotating and maintaining stock.
- Identifying unusual and/or vintage items for evaluation and online sales.
As a retail volunteer at Families Together Suffolk, you will receive training and guidance from our Shop Manager and our two Deputy Managers. Our managers will get to know you during your induction and help you plan the best ways for you to volunteer so you get the most enjoyment out of your role—whether that’s doing the things you love or learning something new. They will support you throughout.
IT/Computer Based Volunteer (Eye or Halesworth)
This volunteer role is ideal for someone who prefers a non customer facing opportunity. As part of the team, you will use our system to register donors who are UK taxpayers.
This enables Families Together Suffolk to claim 25% tax back on the items they donate.
You will also help with pricing and labelling items with the correct Gift Aid details, ensuring donated goods reach the shop floor promptly and efficiently.
We also have opportunities to help with our social media and Facebook selling pages, as well as recycling and packaging goods for resale. Full training and support are provided by the retail management team.
eBay Selling Hub (Stowmarket)
In this role, you will work with the team that sorts donated items, researches their value, and prepares them for sale, including checking, cleaning, steaming, storing, and packaging.
You will help display and photograph donated items to show them at their best, ready for creating an eBay listing. You may also help organise stock or improve processes—there are many ways to contribute.
We particularly need more team members who can help with listing items on our selling platform using a computer. Training and support will be provided. If this is a new skill you would like to learn, please contact us.
Volunteer Driver (Eye / Stowmarket / Halesworth)
As a volunteer driver, you will help collect and safely deliver donated stock
between our Eye and Halesworth charity shops
and our Stowmarket eBay selling hub.
You’ll be required to use your own transport (car or van).
Expenses will be paid to cover fuel and mileage costs at the current HMRC approved rate.
